Algerian Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Origin, Taste and Quality Guide

Algerian Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Algeria has a long olive-growing tradition, with regional varieties and production styles that create oils with different aromas, bitterness, fruitiness and peppery notes. Prophetic Blends Algerian Extra Virgin Olive Oil has received Great Taste Awards in both 2025 and 2026.

What Does “Extra Virgin” Mean?

Extra virgin olive oil is the highest recognised grade of olive oil and must meet defined chemical and sensory criteria. Acidity is one quality measure, but it should be considered alongside freshness, handling, storage and flavour.

Our product specification states an acidity level of 0.3%.

Does Country of Origin Decide Quality?

No single country automatically produces “better” olive oil. Algeria, Italy, Greece, Spain and other producing regions can all make excellent oils. Variety, harvest timing, processing, storage and freshness matter more than national stereotypes.

How to Use It

  • Drizzle over salads and vegetables.
  • Use in dressings and marinades.
  • Serve as a dipping oil.
  • Use for suitable everyday cooking.
  • Finish soups, grains and roasted vegetables for flavour.

Cooking With Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Extra virgin olive oil can be used for many normal cooking methods. Avoid unnecessarily overheating any oil and follow sensible kitchen practices for the cooking temperature and dish you are preparing.

Storage

Heat, light and air gradually reduce freshness. Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dark place and follow the best-before and storage information on the packaging.

What Does a Great Taste Award Mean?

Great Taste is an independent food and drink judging scheme focused on flavour and eating quality. An award is valuable evidence of taste quality, but it is not a medical or nutritional endorsement.
